Dr. George ReeserDr. George Reeser

Our colleague, friend, and mentor, George William Reeser, 74, of Sylva, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at his residence of complications from leukemia after a brief illness. Dr. Reeser started his career at Western on September 1, 1964 as Assistant Professor of Industrial Arts. In 1969, George took a leave of Absence to pursue his PhD. Two years later he received his PhD in Industrial Education from Ohio State University. Professor Reeser returned to WCU that same year, resuming his position as Assistant Professor of Industrial Arts. In 1972 his rank changed to Associate Professor in Industrial Education and Technology and was promoted to the rank of Full Professor in 1977. Dr. Reeser taught in areas such as Power and Transportation, Construction, Graphic Arts, Building Codes, Machining Processes, and served as the Graduate Program Coordinator. Professor Reeser was active in the North Carolina Vocational Teacher Educators Association and served as the state President. He also worked as a consultant with the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) during the summer of 1984 in Saudi Arabia. George and his family were resident dorm hosts in Madison Dormitory during the mid-1960’s when retired professors Jerry Cook, James Turner and Don Wood were undergraduate students at Western Carolina University. After retirement, George worked as a residential real estate appraiser, and continued his favorite roles of father, grandfather, and husband. He will be missed by thousands of his former students and numerous professional colleagues across the state and around the world.
