Mr. Craig D. Capano has worked for over twenty years in the Building Construction and Engineering industry. He has experienced many of facets of the industry including work in architecture, engineering and construction. He began his career as a construction laborer and worked up to project management. Mr. Capano earned an Associate of Engineering degree in Architectural Engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1983. He returned to Wentworth and earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management in 1992, while he was working for a national company, High Tech Parking Systems/Field Engineering as a project manager on a number of engineering and construction projects. Mr. Capano then attended Clemson University where he earned a Master of Construction Science and Management Degree in 1994. He took an academic appointment at Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1995 through 2002. Prior to joining the Western Carolina team, Mr. Capano recently worked at CG Schmidt Construction, an ENR 400 contractor, as the Engineering and Support Services Manager, where he was responsible for the corporate training and professional growth of all junior Project Managers and Construction Engineers. He is currently completing his PhD work at Marquette University in Civil Engineering with a minor in Management. While at Milwaukee School of Engineering he was an Associate Professor and the Construction Management Program Director. He is a Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) and active in a number of Construction Industry associations. He is a Board of Trustees member to the American Council of Construction Education (ACCE), a former Regional Director for the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC), a member of the National Education Committee for the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), and a member of the American Institute of Constructors (AIC). He was selected as AGC's National Outstanding Educator in 2002 and has also been the academic coach/advisor for Regional and National Champion teams at AGC/ASC CM competitions. Mr. Capano's research interest involves the integration of technology in the Construction Industry. He was the recipient of AGC's Jellinger Research award where he investigated the use of Project Websites. He has also published a number of papers on integrating technology in CM academic programs. Mr. Capano's recent interest and research is in the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Data Exchange within the Construction Industry.
